The Caregivers Award

Coming in 2016 — Caregivers Excellence Awards

medal-1front.backIn honor of Mother Teresa’s world renown charitable work, The Walter and Vera Scherr and Family Foundation is launching a new annual awards program designed to recognize some of our community’s most exceptional caregivers. These awards are intended to pay tribute to those individuals for whom compassion is second nature – those who not only provide expert care to people with developmental disabilities and special needs across a broad range of conditions and illnesses, but who do so with a singular focus on enhancing the quality of life for those in their care.

To do that, we will accept nominations from peers, family, friends and patients (as well as anyone whose life has been touched) for caregivers and teams of caregivers in one of three categories:

  • Outstanding Professional/Paraprofessional Caregiver (individuals who work in an agency or healthcare organization)
  • Outstanding Volunteer Caregiver (individuals who do not receive compensation for their caregiving)
  • Inspired Designer (inventors, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs who have developed new ideas or products specifically to improve the quality of life for those with special needs)

At the outset, the program will be open to caregivers in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut region. Over time, our intention is to expand the program to include across the United States. Winners will be unveiled and celebrated at an annual Awards Gala.
