Senator Shumer Recognizes The Center for Discovery as a Beacon

Senator Shumer recognizes The Center for Discovery as a beacon, and chose the site of it’s “Makers Lab” in Hurleyville to announce the U.S. Senator’s intention to sponsor ground-breaking legislation (the Disability Integration Act) that would provide many new options for peoples with disabilities.

The Center for Discovery focuses on helping those with disabilities, empowering them to to be productive. The Senator met with residents at The Center and took a short tours of Maker’s Lab. Impressed, he noted “it gives people a sense of rel accomplishment.”

Senator Shumer also learned about Walter J. Scherr (video), through whose donations over the years helped make the Maker’s Lab possible. Mr. Scherr has been an ardent supporter of the Center ever since learning about it through the brother-in-law of a colleague when he needed surgery.

During an interview by Kevin Kauzleric that Walter J. Scherr explains that his life devotion to caregivers was inspired by a conversation he had with Mother Teresa.
